Welcome to the little piece of paradise we have been blessed with. We raise registered Nigerian goats on a 30-acre mini-farm, nestled in a small valley near the Siletz River. The valley floor is meadows, framed by steep hills covered in evergreen forests. We enjoy abundant wildlife, attracted by our large pond, and an incredible peaceful setting. The Pacific Ocean is seven miles to the west of our place. We are located about 20 minutes northeast of the coastal town of Newport, Oregon. I, Anna, am the primary goat caretaker on our little farm. Our three children, Shantelle (17), Tacoma (15), and Jostan (13), all have responsibilities in helping care for the goats. My husband, Cameron, is a great helper when asked but usually "leaves me to my goats". Although I have a masters degree in animal science and have worked in the livestock industry, I am currently happy to be a stay-at-home mom and do some home schooling. In addition, I am a goat/sheep/llama 4H club leader, a Girl's Mpact teacher at church, and a "basketball" mom and enjoy these roles as well. I have been involved with dairy goats for 40 years and grew up drinking goat's milk. As a youth, I was involved in 4H for 10 years with almost every possible animal 4H project. Goats were always one of my favorites but when we started with Nigerians in 2000, I was smitten with this precious little breed. We try to limit ourselves to 30 mature does and a few young does and bucks. In the spring and summer months, we have a brief population explosion with many beautiful kids joining the family. We have been blessed to find wonderful new homes for about 75 goats annually. In addition to the Nigerians, we are also home to several Boer goats, twelve llamas, a Paint mare, several American Guinea Hogs, three goat guard dogs, about a dozen chickens, three rabbits, and six barn cats. I am striving to raise miniature dairy goats that are gentle, healthy, abundant milk producers, easy to hand milk, with correct dairy conformation that makes us proud in the show ring. We also enjoy Nigerians' varied colors with blue eyes and polled traits being an added bonus. I am very pleased with the progress we have made in our breeding program and I am thrilled with the 2012 kid crop. Please take your time and enjoy the little piece of paradise that God blessed us with. You will see some beautiful animals that are given many hours of love and care each day. Thank you for stopping by! Anna K. Brown |
